Gustav Åhr (November 1, 1996 – November 15, 2017), better known by his stage name Lil Peep. He was an American rapper and singer from Long Beach, Long Island, New York.
Lil Peep’s music is known for its slow, melodic, and melancholy “emo” sound and his often loud and gruff voice. His lyrics included themes about suicide, drug addiction and abuse, troubles with girls, and relationships. Peep’s vocal style ranged from rapping, singing, and screaming. Peep’s influences include Gucci Mane, Crystal Castles, and My Chemical Romance.
Peep himself was also known for his unique, somewhat flamboyant, fashion sense and appearance. His hair was more often than not dyed bright pink, he often wore brightly colored clothes and had even been spotted wearing Hello Kitty and Katy Perry merchandise. His various amounts of tattoos were also known, which include “DADDY” below his collarbone, the anarchy symbol on his cheek, and “Crybaby” above his right eyebrow.
Peep first gained recognition online from his 2015 mixtape Lil PEEP; PART ONE, which went viral on Soundcloud and included his breakout songs “Star Shopping” & “The Way I See Things”, which gained him much popularity in the underground hip-hop scene, especially in the then-emerging “goth rap” subgenre. In 2016, Peep released Hellboy, which got much popularity with a mainstream audience and further pushed Lil Peep into the mainstream light.Rapper Lil Peep was tragically found dead on his tour bus hours before he was meant to perform at a gig in Arizona. Remember the young artist, Lil Peep who blended emo and hip-hop into a sound and style all his own with 10 of his best cuts that prove why he’ll be so missed.
R.I.P. Lil Peep- Remembering Top 10 biggest hits from Rapper/Singer
The last music video Lil Peep released before he passed away, the clip for “Awful Things” feels eerily autobiographical, as it sees the rapper misbehaving in class (he ended up dropping out of high school), using his bad boy good looks to hook up with a co-ed, and then later, setting himself on fire and creating his own demise.
This was another popular track featuring frequent collaborator Lil Tracy. The song is artful and he pays homage to Amy Winehouse with a portrait of her. The song has garnered 9,958,884 views.
If you were a late arrival to the Peep party, you might have discovered him earlier this year via this video, partly shot in Russia. “Iced out teeth with an iced out whip/ With the limousine tints you can suck my dick,” he raps, while looking more stylish than ever, in a green and pink faux fur coat.
The song is shot on a rooftop and foretells one of his high school relationships. The song has 5,102,000 views.
This is a video where Lil Peep is smiling throughout. The track was released over the summer as a prelude to his first album and shows him on tour in Europe, backstage, in an airport, and also hugging fans.
A 2015 track with an infectious hook that never failed to get the crowd going at his live shows, it may be Peep’s simplest video: nothing more than our hero smoking a spliff, and conspicuously not sharing it with the guy next to him. Peep undercuts the moodiness of the track with self-effacing titles like “Why you acting so weird? ” “What u mean,” “I Gotta Chill” and “Sheesh.”
The production on this Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1 album cut makes it feel like it could have fit perfectly on an R&B record or potentially even a full-length by a forward-thinking pop star, and the fact that he’s able to pull it off as well as he does is a testament to his versatility as a musician.
Compellingly weird, this video finds a stoned, neon-clad Peep with an eclectic collection of goth girls, an outré hotel room, and live flamingos. It’s impossible to choose one song among Peep’s prolific output that is the single greatest fan favorite, but “Girls” would be a serious contender for that title.
Peep would always find himself complaining and not taking advantage of the position he was in, peep said this in an interview about his Cry Baby tattoo and that could have some correlation with the song. In the lyrics, Peep explains how a girl would call him a crybaby because of all the things peep would complain about. Peep also talks about how he didn’t treat this girl right, and what he did wrong.
Lil Peep’s second track off his debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober PT 1, “Save That Shit” describes his relationship problems with a girl. He wants to know if she’s open to living the life that he is, and describes how he can treat her right.
