The Miss America 2018 pageant took place on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, and it was truly a sight to see. We saw some amazing dresses, fun talents, and interesting answers to questions from the Miss America organization and ABC. Miss America 2018 was the 97th Miss America pageant. On July 24, 2017, it was announced that Chris Harrison and Sage Steele would be returning to co-host the Miss America pageant for the second year in a row. The panel of judges on the final night of competition on was included, Thomas Rhett; Molly Sims; Jordin Sparks; Jess Cagle; Maria Menounos; Nina Davuluri; and Tara Lipinski. Which Beauty won which title in Miss America 2018 Pageant?
For the first time in the competition’s history, Miss North Dakota was crowned Miss America 2018. The 23-year-old had already made history earlier in the competition when she was the first North Dakota contestant to be named a top 5 finalist, according to People magazine. Only three previous Miss North Dakota competitors had reached the top 10. In addition to taking home the crown and being North Dakota’s big winner, Cara will receive a $50,000 scholarship and a six-figure salary for her year of service as the reigning Miss America.
Jennifer Davis finished in second place, the first runner-up to Miss America 2018 winner Cara Mund. She took home a $25,000 scholarship and will continue performing public works and community services in her home state before returning to school to study being a physician’s assistant, specializing in pediatric oncology. Davis sizzled on stage during the talent competition, performing a high-energy Bollywood dance number to the song “Naacho Re” from 2014 movie Jai Ho.
Second runner-up Kaitlyn Schoeffel represented New Jersey at the 97th Miss America Pageant and making it all the way to the top three. Kaitlyn has been a part of the Miss America Organization for the past 10 years. In 2007, she held the title of Miss New Jersey’s Outstanding Teen. Kaitlyn is a passionate advocate for the arts. Kaitlyn has developed relationships with community theaters across the state of New Jersey to sponsor tickets for children to see live theater productions. She also provides scholarships to students to participate in dance, voice, and acting lessons.
Miss District of Columbia 2017 Briana Kinsey, a native of Hoover, Alabama, was named third runner-up in the Miss America 2018 Pageant. Kinsey, a 24-year-old who competed as Miss District of Columbia, won an additional $15,000 scholarship for placing as third runner-up. Kinsey graduated from Hoover High School in 2011 and the University of Alabama in 2015 and now lives in Washington, D.C., where she is doing post-baccalaureate work at American University and working full-time as an eyewear consultant at MyEyeDr. Her goal is to become a doctor who specializes in pediatric endocrinology so she can help children with endocrine disorders, including diabetes.
Miss Texas Margana Wood didn’t take home the Miss America crown, but she definitely scored a far greater win in everyone’s heart. She was the fourth Runner up in the Miss America 2018 Pageant. Miss Texas received a $20,000 cash scholarship and the use of an Infiniti from Grubbs Infiniti during her reign. In addition to competing for scholarships, each contestant actively participates in raising funds for the Children’s Miracle Network, which is the national platform of Miss America. Margana Wood is a 22-year-old graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. She has earned a degree in Corporate Communications with a minor in Rhetoric and Writing. After her year of service, with the educational scholarship earned by winning the title of Miss Texas. She plans to return to graduate school to pursue her master’s degree.
