Best Looks from Balmain Paris Fashion Week Show SS18
Fashion needs its showmen, and Balmain’s designer Olivier Rousteing is one of them at Paris Fashion Week. On Thursday he took his guests to the opulent Paris Opera, where thousands of white roses peeped out of foliage decorating the venue’s stone staircase. Here take you to the journey of Best Looks from Balmain Paris Fashion Week Show SS18.
Model Natalia Vodianova opened the show in a patent leather jumpsuit with chain straps and a white cut-out shoulder shirt, followed by a big ruffled leather skirt paired with Balmain logo T-shirt; also Rousteing sends out a classic floor-dusting stripped trench worn as an evening piece.
Balmain made a move into bags and (relatively) affordable jewelry with the launch of a whole new accessories collection earlier this year, and a giant version of the signature gold medallion hung like a blingy coat of arms over the entrance to the show. Accessories were front and center on the runway too, in the form of boxy leather bags swinging with tassels, and block-heeled Perspex boots.
There were several stars turn in Balmain’s Paris Fashion Week Show– Natalia Vodianova, Joan Smalls, Alessandra Ambrosio and Karolina Kurkova – not to mention his usual favorites Natasha Poly and Jourdan Dunn.
There were stripes, checks, fringing, and lots of shiny wet-look PVC. Giant sculptural ruffles were everywhere, on shoulders, over hips and exploding at the bottom of figure-hugging skirts. Elsewhere, the Rousteng signatures of crystal beading, big shoulders and tribal feathered trims all made an appearance.
This over the top collection was very much Olivier’s own way of dressing; the intricate embroidery, lace, beading and knitting work was completely extravagant. Looks like tweed sets were worn with knee-high leather boots, floral adored mini-dresses were paired with PVC transparent heeled boots, and dramatically ruffled skirts were seen with studded black clutch bags and peep-toe booties.
Valery Kaufman, Andreea Diaconu, Roosmarijn de Kok, Josephine Skriver, Amilna Estevao and Maartje Verhoef also made the show and kept the torch burning for the new era of super faces. For the finale, Rousteing leads his army of models, as they applaud him for his very wearable rock’n’roll and glitzy feminine creations.
